Mt. Pilatus, Switzerland

Writer's picture: MARVelous TravelMARVelous Travel

Pilatus, also often referred to as Mount Pilatus, is a mountain massif overlooking Lucerne in Central Switzerland. It is composed of several peaks, of which the highest (2,128.5 m (6,983 ft)) is named Tomlishorn.

The top can be reached with the Pilatus Railway, the world's steepest cogwheel railway, from Alpnachstad, operating from May to November (depending on snow conditions) and the whole year with the aerial panorama gondolas and aerial cableways from Kriens.

Day 6 of 8

Full packed adventure

From Basel train station is an hour train ride to the city of Lucerne.

This is my plan B for not able to see the city of Geneva.

I’ve been to Lucerne 2yrs. ago with my mom but i am not able to go up to the mountain of Mt. Pilatus (out of travel budget 😂). So I i made this trip as my plan B.

After an hour of travel i reached The city of Lucerne, Switzerland.

I immediately inquire the ticket going up to Mt. Pilatus.

There is 2 kinds of ticket going up to the mountain “Golden Roundtrio Ticket” & “Silver Roundtrip Ticket”

Golden Roundtrip Ticket:

(Price CHF 102.00)

During the summer, the "Golden Round Trip" — a popular route for tourists — involves taking a boat from Lucerne across Lake Lucerne to Alpnachstad, going up on the cogwheel railway, coming down on the aerial cableways and panorama gondolas, and taking a bus back to Lucerne.

Silver Roundtrip Ticket:

(Price: CHF 84.00)

It’s the same route but you will skip the boat trip and take the train going to Alpnachstad.

Since 2yrs. ago i experienced the boat trip on the Lake Lucerne, so i decide to skip the boat and the train instead (silver roundtrip ticket)

It’s a 15-20mins. train ride from Lucerne to Alpnachstad (bottom of the mountain)

2 nice ladies will welcome you and give your digital card ticket for your roundtrip for the mountain. (I am surprise they speak dutch 👌🏻)

The Cogwheel Train takes you on top in just 30mins.

When i hop off from the cogwheel train (it’s a lil bit cold but as you walk and around make me feel warm)

I need to walk and hike a lil bit more to reached to top.

Lots of tourist are waiting for the clouds to go so that we can all see the beauty of Lake Lucerne from top. So i wait for a lil bit and go down first drink coffee from the kiosk bar.

But buying a cup of cappucino here is a bad idea, it’s super expensive to think this coffe os only from the machine and will cost you CHF 5.50 already (if you convert it to € it will cost €5.00). Good thing i bought my packed lunch on my backpack.

Took some pictures and chill for a while

This side part of the mountain is closed due to some snow melting from the rain.

Clouds was still on our way 🙄😬😲

FINALLY!!! This is the view what we are waiting for 😍😍😍

So greatful to witness this… Amazed how God create this kind of nature… #soblessedbeyondmeasure

Lake Lucerne is just Amazing!!!

Those Alps with snow, still can’t believed i am seeing this view. Always dreamed to see this.

”Great dreamers’ dreams are never fulfilled, they are always transcented.”

-The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari-

It’s time to go back to the city (it start to rain 😄)

going down i need to hop on to the cable car to reached the Fräkmüntegg.

Fräkmüntegg is full of adventure and fun. The largest rope park in central Switzerland, Tree Tents, the toboggan run, hiking trails and beautiful grilling spots all entice you to linger. In the winter Fräkmüntegg boasts fast-paced sledding and winter hiking trails. The self-service restaurant will spoil you with delicacies from the Swiss kitchen.

Take gondola to Kriens, Switzerland

Kriens is a city and a municipality in the district of Lucerne in the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland. The municipality lies at the foot of the mountain Pilatus, and is a western suburb of Lucerne.

This is the end of the Mountain trip of Mt. Pilatus.

From here I need to walk down to the bus station (Bus #1) going back to the city center of Lucern (bus fare is included from the roundtrip so i don’t need to buy a ticket from the bus).

I recommend this trip when you are in Switzerland, it’s one of a kind experienced..
